Task 1: Group Work (40%)
In your assigned groups, you will need to design a travel guide for tourists going to Singapore/Canada. The tourists reading this tour guide will then be able to broaden their knowledge about the history, places and culture in the respective countries. The travel guide will provide insights on the uniqueness of Singapore/Canada, hence tourists will be interested to visit the country and its attractions.
Your travel guide should include the following components:
· A brief historical background of Singapore/Canada
· Geographical location, weather, seasons, climate, etc
· Places of interest
· Food
· Festivals
There can be five sections in you travel guide. The description for each component above should be written in prose form. You may wish to include images if you want to.
Task 2: Individual (10% + 20%)
There are 2 parts to this task.
You will need to select one travel guide of another’s group to comment on. The group which you select to comment on must not be the country that you have researched on earlier during the group work.
Part 1: Include your response to the travel guide you have chosen. Comment on the organization, graphics and content of the travel guide.
Part 2: When you are exploring the travel guide of another group, pay attention to the unique features found in the country in terms of history, geographical location, climate, places, food and festivals. Summarize the differences found in the two countries in about 100 - 150 words.
Task 3: Individual (30%)
You should have finished reading Wena Poon’s Man who is Afraid of ATMs by now. Respond in 100-150 words why the old man is unable to assimilate into the Canadian culture in the story.
Criterion for assessing your individual reflection:
- You should include reason(s) for the old man’s inability to assimilate into the Canadian culture in your writings.
- You need to provide evidence from the short story to support your reason(s)
